The following is from KTOG post by BBP:
I got mine installed today
........it was pretty easy actually
Need the LED unit .......wow $17........4 of female bullet connectors..........a
piece of wire about 4" long
Cut off the 3 way connector.........tin the leads.........tie the 4" peice of
wire to the BLUE
BLACK\YELLOW from bike (male)......to......GREEN of LED..(female)....ground
RED\YELLOW from bike (male)......to.....WHITE of LED....(female).....low
RED\BLACK from bike (male)......to.....BLUE of LED...(female).......high....and
the pigtail (female) goes to the.....RED\BLACK high beam bulb in the gauge pod
I oriented the LED so that on high when the 3rd LED comes on, it is up (pigtail
up and off center slightly, look at The top LED for high, should be flat across
parallel).......on low, the other two LED's are at a 45 degree angle to the
bottom...on high, all three come on.......and the high indicators works
Sawed off the old bulb area leaving about an 1/8" sticking out (the
sleeve)........carefully dremeled the hole for a perfect fit.........Smash the
old bulb out and blow it out to get the dust out.....take the little shroud off
of the LED before installing so it goes all the way in .......I then used some
Urethane rubber type sealer.......it fit so well, probably didn't need it
Good trick........It's friggin Bright White...........will see how it works at
night in a couple months........cars will see you with this (I hope
)
I really don't ride at night..........will be 58 in
two weeks.........eyes not as good as they once were........mostly cars to see
me during day time riding..........but who knows, it may be be better (those old
bulbs were pretty dim).........when I tested the LED out of the
bucket........man, it will blind you big time
That was my big concern, getting it to fit in the stock bucket..........I was
amazed, thought I would have to Ty-Rap a bunch of wires in a loop to leave room
for the fan in the center.........I did kind of arrange them that
way.........damn thing went right in.......no hassle at all..........really a
very easy mod
With the Urethane.......or you could use some copper RTV.........a razor knife,
cut it and replace it........easy
On Low........the two LEDs are ON down low.......and it's OK to look at the
headlight........on High..........the upper one comes on.........crap it's
bright
I wonder if I would left the stem about 3/8" rather than 1/8"..........that
would set it back some and may reflect more.......who knows, maybe not
I think I like it, will have to see on a road test at night........it's a pretty
bright white light........looks cool
Interesting on the Vibrations...........my engine is not rubber
mounted........but thanks to Charlies new crank.......vibration is not that
bad.......if my old Stanley with a filament survived 43 years.........I would
think the LED would be good........time will tell
